Catch fish like sailfish, snook, red snapper, roosterfish, yellow fin tuna, wahoo, dorado, grouper, and rainbow runner all day long as you soak in the sun and relax on a charter fishing boat.
But perhaps the best catch of all during your Costa Rica vacation will be the mighty marlin. Known to frequent the water of Costa Rica, marlins weigh around 600 pounds and can often eclipse 1,000 pounds! These giant fish provide a truly unforgettable fishing experience, as there’s nothing quite like battling a marlin as you reel it in. The best time to catch marlin is from December to April, but they can be caught at any time of the year.
Chances are you’ll have a great shot at catching a marlin anytime you head out on a Costa Rica sportfishing trip, but if not, the sailfish is also a worthy adversary. While not as feisty as the marlin, the sailfish provide quite a spectacle as they soar through the air, shimmering and reflecting in the light as the sun catches the large sails upon their backs from which they get their name. Sailfish season is from December to March, with the prime time to fish for them being in February.
