March 2025 Fishing Report – Red-Hot Action & Triple Crown Glory at Los Sueños

March is always one of the most exciting months to fish in Costa Rica, and March 2025 delivered on every front. From epic offshore action to the thrilling conclusion of the Signature Triple Crown tournament, Los Sueños Resort and Marina once again proved why it’s considered the premier sportfishing destination in Central America.

At Stay in Costa Rica, we were proud to help hundreds of anglers plan and experience world-class fishing adventures this month. Whether it was a first-time family trip or a return visit from a serious tournament angler, March brought tight lines, big smiles, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Tournament Spotlight – Billfisher Takes the Crown

The month’s highlight was undoubtedly LEG 3 of the 2025 Signature Triple Crown, held March 26–29. This final leg brought together 46 teams and 229 elite anglers, who combined to release a jaw-dropping 1,033 billfish in just three days—including 979 sails and 54 marlin.

Leading the pack was Billfisher, a 64’ Duffie Boatworks captained by Noah McVicker, with an all-star team of anglers including Judy Duffie, Jon Duffie, Danny Dough, Doug Raab, Jeremy Duffie, and Kevin “KP” Paul. With 35 sailfish and 4 marlin, they scored 5,500 points to win Leg 3 and secure their place as 2025 Series Champions with 23,400 points. This marks their third overall Triple Crown title and an incredible 12 podium finishes since the series began in 2014.

Over the entire season, the Triple Crown saw 49 teams, 300 anglers, and 5,388 billfish released—averaging 39 fish per boat, one of the best records in the tournament’s history.

What to Expect When Fishing Los Sueños in March

Tournament stats aside, March is peak billfish season, and this year was no exception. Anglers fishing out of Los Sueños Marina enjoyed consistent sailfish bites just 20–30 miles offshore. Many boats reported double-digit sail releases on day trips, and marlin were especially active, with blue and striped marlin showing up in solid numbers.

It wasn’t just billfish either—yellowfin tuna and dorado (mahi-mahi) were also in the mix, providing plenty of variety for both trolling and live bait setups. Flat, calm seas and blue water conditions made for ideal days on the water throughout the month.

Whether you were aboard a private charter targeting trophy fish or part of a family group looking to reel in your first sailfish, March delivered action, excitement, and postcard-perfect days on the water.
