If you are planning a fishing vacation, you have probably heard of Costa Rica during the research phase of organizing your trip. That’s because Costa Rica sport fishing is among the best in the world. In the Central Pacific, sport fishing is abundant because this area has one of the most fertile fishing grounds in the world. For this reason, Costa Rica Los Sueños chose to build its 200-slip marina, which has become very popular due to the short run to blue water on flat seas and a diversified abundance of fish.
We have been helping anglers plan fishing trips to Los Sueños Resort since 2001, we know the best boats and crews. Contact us to start planning your next sportfishing adventure to Costa Rica.
Offshore: enter deeper waters for the “BIG ONES” – Marlins up to 600 pounds and over. Sailfish are abundant on Costa Rica sport fishing trips, and in certain months it is not unusual to catch up to 20 a day. Also found are yellowfin tuna, dorado, amberjack, wahoo, grouper, and rainbow runner.
Inshore: Go for red snapper, snook, and get the fight of a lifetime from a world-record roosterfish.
We offer the best Costa Rica sport fishing packages, including everything from transportation and fabulous Costa Rica accommodation to fishing charters and other tours or activities.

The best fishing areas in Costa Rica depend on the species you want to target. Tarpon are found only on the Caribbean coast, while billfish such as marlin and sailfish thrive in the Pacific. Our location near Los Sueños is an ideal fishing spot because we avoid the heavy northern winds, offering calmer waters and excellent offshore conditions perfect for a successful day of angling. The southern regions also have good fishing, though they are mostly limited to smaller lodges rather than full marinas.
Fishing in Costa Rica is excellent year-round, but the best month depends on the species you’re after. For example, sailfish peak in the Pacific between December and April, while marlin are strongest from September to November. For detailed planning, check our sportfishing calendar to see seasonal availability by species.

Yes, you can bring fish back to the United States if it is fully frozen and packed in your checked luggage with no ice. Always check with your airline for additional restrictions on frozen food items. At U.S. Customs, you must declare the fish when entering the country.
Fishing at Los Sueños is productive all year. The “best” time depends on the species you want to catch, but anglers can look forward to strong fishing opportunities in every season.
